LEVEL 1 FEATURES / 2024 RULES
STARTER LOADOUT / NO POWER BOOSTS
PISTOL uses Hand Crossbow rules: +5 to hit · 1d6+3 piercing · 30/120 ft.
CARBINE uses Light Crossbow rules: +5 to hit · 1d8+3 piercing · 80/320 ft.
BALANCE CHECK / LEVEL 1
The firearms are visual reskins only. Loading, ammunition, range, damage, and Weapon Mastery work exactly like their crossbow equivalents.
FIELD NOTE / BACKSTORY
“The spell failed. The backup plan did not.”
DanXThrill trained as a wizard, but magic simply never answered. During a failed observatory experiment, he fell into an alternate reality where magic never developed and returned with unfamiliar weapons. He now survives adventures using ordinary Fighter training, academic curiosity, and technology nobody in his world quite understands.
Starter equipment: studded leather, a hand crossbow reskinned as a pistol, a light crossbow reskinned as a carbine, bolts, a dagger, scholar's tools, and the spellbook he still refuses to throw away.
Table note: The mechanics are a standard level-one Fighter from the 2024 rules. Ask the Dungeon Master to approve the firearm appearance, the crossbow equipment exchange, and replacing the Sage's magical Origin feat with Skilled so the character remains completely nonmagical.
